Rabies clinics announced

The Piatt County Animal Control Department will host rabies clinics throughout the county on April 6 and April 27. Piatt County tags will be sold only when getting a vaccination. Clinics will be held at the following locations:

Scholarship started honor of fallen soldiers

Hamm-Burke American Legion Post 101 and Piatt County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5346—both in Monticello—have announced the creation of a memorial scholarship in honor of Monticello native and United States Marine Corps PFC Robert C. Burke, who was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam.

Piatt County has been issued a final property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue.


'Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.' Feb. 23 in Cerro Gordo

Cerro Gordo 5th and 6th graders will present “Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.” on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3 and 7 p.m. in the Cerro Gordo Junior High School gym. General admission tickets will be available at the door.


Pinewood Derby winners announced

The Monticello-area Cub Scouts pinewood derby was held Saturday, Feb. 16 at Lincoln Elementary School in Monticello.

The too eight racers were: Timmy Sikorski, Will Greer, Brooks Frieburg, Tyler Fairchild, Braden Wood, Thomas Herman, Adam Herman and Connor Andrew.


Davis a ranking member of subcommittee

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) on Jan. 17 was named Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit by Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member by Sam Graves (R-Mo.).


MAEF 'Black Jack and Black Tie' fundraiser

Tickets are on sale for the Monticello Area Education Foundation (MAEF) 2019 fundraiser, “Black Jack and Black Tie – 21 Years of MAEF.” The event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Allerton Mansion.


Mudpuppy Festival is Feb. 2

The Second Annual Mudpuppy Festival is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Monarch Brewing Co., 212 S. Independence St., Monticello. The event celebrates one of the unique creatures of the Sangamon River.


Bement High School taking hall of fame nominations

The Bement Board of Education began its annual Bement High School Hall of Fame Award in 1991, with the naming of Sereno Bodman and Gary Gallagher as it first members. Since its inception, fifty-five Bement High School graduates have been named to the Hall of Fame. Last year the Hall of Fame honorees were: Wilma Fendley and Dana Foran.
