Crossroads group ministers in Haiti

A 12 member team from Crossroads Church of Monticello recently returned from a week-long trip to serve at God’s Littlest Angels (GLA) Haitian Baby Ministry near Fort Jacques, Haiti. The Crossroads team focused on framing walls for the upper level of the guest house. Upon its completion, future mission teams will be able to stay together at the guest house on site.

Tim and Melissa Parker of Monticello, both graduates of Monticello High School and members of Crossroads Church, have been volunteering at God’s Littlest Angels (GLA) since 2010.


Pastor donates kidney to save church member

Elaine Holloway was told in January 2016 she needed a new kidney to survive, and that it could take up to five years to find a suitable donor for the Monticello woman.

But less than a year after being placed on a national transplant list, a donor was found very close to home.


Award winning band to perform in Cisco

The Farm Hands Bluegrass Quartet, bluegrass music’s 2018 Band of the Year, will perform at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 8, at Cisco United Methodist Church, 145 N. Eldon St.


Churches planning for possible shootings

After a gunman killed 26 people in November at a church in Texas and another killed 17 people last month at a high school in Florida, some businesses and organizations are taking steps they never would’ve thought they had to.


Music ministry program at Monticello Nazarene Church

Bob and Jennifer Wilkerson will be at the Monticello Nazarene Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 for a music and ministry service. The church is located at 301 W. Wilson St., Monticello.

Bledsoe new pastor at Calvary Baptist Church

Joshua “Josh” Bledsoe admits God started calling him to the ministry at the age of 16, but “growing up I wanted to be a band director. I wanted to do that my entire life.”

So after graduating with his music education degree from Eastern Illinois University in 2003 he became the Vandalia High School band director. And he loved it.


Monticello church celebrating 175th anniversary

The congregation of Monticello’s oldest church is celebrating its 175th anniversary this month. The First Presbyterian Church, 214 S. Charter, will have a celebratory potluck dinner after the worship service on Sunday, Oct. 29.


Parkland, B-N band concert Sunday

The Bloomington-Normal Community Band and the Parkland College Concert Band will present a shared concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 at the Monticello United Methodist Church, 2020 E. Washington St., Monticello.
