Sage fans large and small, young and old, Monticello natives and transplants alike united to fill Memorial Stadium the day after Thanksgiving, standing the entire game in rainy conditions to root the Sages football squad to victory.

Security cameras coming to Born Park in Cerro Gordo



Tom Overmyer of Phoenix Consulting Engineers spoke before the Cerro Gordo Village Board on June 18, filling them in the water main replacement project. Those have included:

–regrading at 427 N. Lincoln St. and 403 N. Lincoln St.;

Bement school district fills all open teacher positions

A shortage of teacher candidates posed challenges, but the Bement school district was able to fill all of its staff openings by June 1, which included four certified teachers and one classroom aide.

Handbook changes to address plagiarism at DeLand-Weldon

DeLand-Weldon schools have added verbiage to student handbooks they hope will tighten up plagiarism, tardiness, and who should be allowed to go on end-of-the-year field trips.

School officials say ever-expanding use of the internet for research is prompting a little too much copy and paste into class papers.

Pastor donates kidney to save church member

Elaine Holloway was told in January 2016 she needed a new kidney to survive, and that it could take up to five years to find a suitable donor for the Monticello woman.

But less than a year after being placed on a national transplant list, a donor was found very close to home.

Cerro Gordo says goodbye to 3 longtime staffers

Hunt, Floyd win primary races

Piatt County voters overwhelmingly voted to give incumbent Sheriff David Hunt the Republican nod in the March 20 primary. The unofficial results point to a 3,047 to 672 win for Hunt over challenger Kyle Turngren, who serves as one of Hunt’s correctional officers at the county jail.

Monticello school referendum passes

After twice defeating calls to construct a new high school, Monticello school district voters have approved a $29.8 million referendum question that will fund renovations at the high school/Washington Elementary campus.
