Piatt County will put its best patriotic foot forward with several events around Independence Day. They include the following:

Pastor donates kidney to save church member

Elaine Holloway was told in January 2016 she needed a new kidney to survive, and that it could take up to five years to find a suitable donor for the Monticello woman.

But less than a year after being placed on a national transplant list, a donor was found very close to home.

Hunt, Floyd win primary races

Piatt County voters overwhelmingly voted to give incumbent Sheriff David Hunt the Republican nod in the March 20 primary. The unofficial results point to a 3,047 to 672 win for Hunt over challenger Kyle Turngren, who serves as one of Hunt’s correctional officers at the county jail.

Randy Keith saw his second place showing in the March 20 101st District Republican primary as not only a defeat for his aspirations to serve in the Illinois House, but as a no-confidence vote in his current role as chairman of the Piatt County board.

High schoolers take part in 4-H Food Challenge

It was a race to the finish in kitchen in the 4-H Food Challenge hosted Feb. 22 at Monticello High School. Four teams from Monticello, Clinton and Cerro Gordo high schools went head to head in an cooking competition that challenged their newly learned cooking and nutrition skills and encouraged teamwork.

Allerton breaks ground on new entrance drive

A $1 million donation will help give Allerton Park and Retreat Center a facelift for one of the more recognizable landmarks in Central Illinois.
