Come cheer on the St. Jude runners

All are welcome to cheer on runners as they travel through Monticello at about 6 p.m. this Friday during the local St. Jude Monticello to Peoria run.

This year’s run features 50 runners, each of whom will take on 3-to-5 mile segments at a time, running all the way to Peoria where they will join 3,000 other runners from other cities the next day in a parade, kicking off the St. Jude telethon. Last year, all participants raised a combined $5.2 million.

With each Monticello runner raising a minimum of $1,000, the local chapter will raise in excess of $50,000.

Runners will leave from the Monticello United Methodist Church at 5:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, and encourage community members to cheer them as they run down Washington Street, the downtown square to Market Street, then out to Bridge Street. The route has been changed slightly to run by the FroYo Factory, which will host a sendoff party at 5:30 p.m. then see them run by at about 6:05 p.m.

Organizers say water guns and bubbles are welcome as participants travel through Monticello.
