Highway work to begin on Illinois 48 near Weldon

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that lane closures will begin Monday, Aug. 6, on Illinois 48, two miles south of Weldon in Piatt County.

The closures are necessary for crews to perform repairs to the bridge that carries Illinois 48 over an unnamed creek south of Weldon. One lane will remain open at all times during this work, which is expected to last through the end of October.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
