Allerton announces holiday events

Tickets for Allerton Park and Retreat Center’s annual holiday events are on sale now. This winter destination offers artisanal, historical, and cultural festivities for couples, families, and groups throughout the month of December. All events will be held at the estate, 515 Old Timber Road, Monticello, and tickets can be purchased at allerton.illinois.edu.

The season will kick off with a Holiday Wreath-Making Workshop (December 5-6), hosted by University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator, Candice Hart. Friday, December 7 marks the Opening Night of the Holiday Showcase and the Kirby Winter Wellness Walk, and the Park will be open exclusively to Opening Night attendees.

The Showcase includes a weekend-long market featuring booths from local business and artists, reservations for a lunch buffet, festive performances, a natural ornament-making workshop led by the Monticello Area Arts Council, carriage rides, and more.

The Kirby Winter Wellness Walk, now in its third year, is an after-dark illuminated walk throughout the Gardens, sponsored by Kirby Medical Center. The Wellness Walk will be lit from 5 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday-Saturday night and will run through Jan. 5.

Festivities continue the following weekend with Public Mansion Tours and A Holiday Affair Dinner on Dec. 15, and Sweets with Santa presented by the State Bank of Bement on Dec. 16. The new Feast of Juul on Dec. 21 offers visitors the chance to celebrate the winter solstice outdoors with a warm bonfire and the lighting of the Juul Log. The events culminate on Dec. 31 with a New Year’s Eve Celebration in the Mansion.

“Whether looking to start a new holiday tradition or to continue with some already established, visitors will find inspiration at Allerton,” said Allerton’s Event Coordinator, Hannah Dole. “Our holiday events are some of our most popular events of the year, and we strive to make them bigger and better each December!”
