SRO officer to be on board in January

Piatt County Deputy Lindsey Bross introduced herself as the county school resource officer (SRO) at the Monticello school board meeting on Dec. 19.

Bross has been a deputy in Piatt County for six years.

“Before that I worked at Champaign County schools and Rantoul city schools, so I do have background in schools,” she told the school board.

The position was created as a collaborative effort between four Piatt County schools and the sheriff’s department. Starting after the holiday break, Bross will spend two days per week in Monticello schools and one each in DeLand-Weldon, Bement and Cerro Gordo.

“I can’t wait to work with you guys and everybody else. I think I’ll be another resource for you guys to lean on. I’m looking forward to working with you, the students and everybody. I can’t wait to get started,” she told the Monticello board.

“We’re excited to have an SRO; we’re excited to have Dep. Bross,” added Monticello Superintendent Vic Zimmerman.
