Christie Clinic opens at new location in Monticello

Monticello’s Christie Clinc has moved from one side of the downtown square to the other to fit its expanding clientele and needs.

The medical facility has almost tripled its available space to about 3,000 square feet at its new location at 100 E. Washington St., and also takes the honor of being the first tenant in the Moore Building (former First Mid-Illinois Bank), which is being renovated by Champaign developer Spencer Atkins.

An open house on March 5 held to show off its new clinic also took place exactly five years after Christie opened in Monticello.

Certified Nurse Practitioner Amber Oberheim has been there from the beginning, and said a space crunch at its former location hit hard when physician Mitch Hammels came on board two years ago.

“That’s when our plans started for expansion, and the fact this building didn’t have an inhabitant yet, and we needed space, it worked out beautifully,” said Oberheim. “And we really wanted to keep our clinic downtown. I feel like we have a lot of positive feedback about having the clinic on the square, so we wanted to preserve that.”

Christie was also allowed to renovate the space to fit its needs, so it has seven exam rooms, three more than it had across the square. There is also a dedicated procedure room, a larger waiting area and a nurses station that was tailored more for a medical clinic.

“I think Christie did a fantastic job. It’s great to have them partnered in the building,” said Atkins.
