Food Challenge

Piatt County Farm Bureau Food Challenge competitors enjoyed racing their shopping carts through the County Market in Monticello in a three-minute contest held Feb. 12.

Sue Lochbaum and Diana Wilkin of the Rotary team outpaced the Bill Abbott, Inc. team of Mike Rhodes and Heath Wilson. During the challenge the teams put items in their cart that contained corn, soy or wheat. When counted at the checkout line, Lochbaum and Wilkin’s cart had about $480 worth of items.

Tying in with the theme, a donation was made to the Community Action Food Pantry after the event, according to Piatt County Farm Bureau manager Emily Bakken. She said the challenge was to celebrate Food Check Out Week, which recognizes the abundant and safe food supply that is provided by farmers.
