Missing Bement teen found safe in Champaign

A Bement teen reported missing on Nov. 20 was found safe in Champaign Tuesday afternoon.

Savannah Banks, who will turn 16 on Dec. 7, had disappeared from her Piatt County home. Her family notified the Piatt County Sheriff's Office, which had worked on the case for more than two weeks.

Piatt County Sheriff David Hunt said Deputies Tom Apperson and Mark Olsen teamed with Champaign police and a U.S. Marshal on the case, and found her at an apartment complex near Parkland College in Champaign at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday.

“She wasn't abducted and we didn't feel she was endangered. There was someone taking care of her,” said Hunt. He added the department was able to use technology to track her whereabouts.
