Early homecoming this year in Bement

Bement High School will celebrate its homecoming on Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9 with the theme “Around the World.”  

The following students have been selected to make up this year’s homecoming court:

–Emily Dowell will be escorted by Austen Brown. Emily is the daughter of Jake and Nikki Mann of Milmine; Austen is the son of Craig and Crystal Roppel of Milmine.

–Hailey Foran will be escorted by Trey Sexton. Hailey is the daughter of Dana Foran of Bement and Debbie Foran of Bement; Trey is the son of Kevin and Kim Sexton of Ivesdale.

–Hannah Leigh Foran will be escorted by Cameron Somers. Hannah is the daughter of Dana Foran of Bement and Debbie Foran of Bement; Cameron is the son of Chris and Kim Somers of Ivesdale.

–Sydney Gadbury will be escorted by Karl Watzlawick. Sydney is the daughter of Tim and Stacy Gadbury of Bement; Karl is the son of Jerold and Michelle Watzlawick of Bement.

–Lindey Thompson will be escorted by Will Wittmer. Lindey is the daughter of Mary Potter of Bement; Will is the son of Joe and Mindi Wittmer of Bement.

The court will be accompanied by four kindergarten attendants:

–Aundrea Robinson will be escorted by Corey Musick. Aundrea is the daughter of Stephanie Robeck of Bement and D.J. Critchfield of Bement; Corey is the son of Ashley Johnson and Matthew Darsham of Bement.

–Tayln Schwartz will be escorted by Luka Summar. Tayln is the daughter of Cody and Sheena Schwartz of Bement; Luka is the son of Gar and Melissa Summar of Bement.

The annual Homecoming Parade will be at 2 plm. Friday, Sept. 8. Grand Marshals Linda Craney and Carolyn Kleven will be leading the parade.  The parade route starts at the school and continues north on Piatt Street, west on Bodman, south on Rt. 105, and east on William back to the school. There will be an all-school/community pep assembly from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m.in Walsh Gymnasium prior to the parade.  

At 7 p.m. the Cerro Gordo-Bement Broncos will take on the Villa Grove-Heritage Blue Devils. At half-time, the Marching Bulldogs will present their 2017 competition show Bon Jovi;  the homecoming court will be introduced, float winners will be announced, and Nancy Ard, class of 1962 and the late Robert Driskill, class of 1940, will be inducted into the 2017 Bement High School Hall of Fame.

The 2017 homecoming coronation will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. There will be a picture-taking opportunity for the public immediately following the coronation. The dance will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m.  Tommy Bales and Kady Wright, Bement High School juniors, will be the emcees for the evening.  

The cost for this event will be $4 for the coronation only, and $6 for the dance and coronation combined.  The dance will be open to high school students and their guests only.
