County fair schedule announced

The Piatt County Fair board has been working on the 2018 Fair since the 2017 one finished up at the fairgrounds in Cerro Gordo. The 2018 version is June 14 -17. Most of the Fair schedule has been worked out, which includes moving youth activities from Saturday tot Thursday and adding Flag Day events.

June 14 is Flag Day, and the fair board is working on a program that will involve the country’s flag and also include the Celebrate Our Youth activities that have been done in the past. Details are being finalized. There will also be a go-kart race Thursday night.

Friday, June 15, as always, is the day for the ITPA tractor pull. Five classes will be pulling. Also Friday evening from 5 to 6 p.m. will be the time that junior general entries will need to be placed. These are the entries for kids 8 to 18 years of age, with items ranging from fine art to culinary to floriculture to crafts to crops. Friday evening will be a time that parents can help their children bring their exhibits and get them on display. Organizers also hope parents will encourage their children to get items ready to show. There will be plenty of room for exhibits.

Also on Friday night, there will be inflatables available for kids and kids-at-heart to enjoy. Then later in the evening Wreckless Whiskey will be back, performing in the beer barn at 9 a.m.. This year will see a small cover charge each night in the beer barn. Those who pay for the tractor pull Friday night do not have to pay the Friday night cover charge.

On Saturday, July 16 the fair board is planning to have inflatables on the grounds for the afternoon and evening. An adult non-livestock show will be Saturday morning, as it has been in the past, focusing on hobbies and crafts. Battle of the Bars will be going on in the Beer Barn in the afternoon, and two bands will be performing: Antics begins at 5 p.m. and then later that night will be the Cary Miller Band. There will be a cover charge Saturday night.

Other Saturday activities are still in the works, including a fireworks display on Saturday night.

Sunday, July 17 is the Outlaw Hookers Antique Tractor Pull. This pull is free for spectators.

Livestock shows also return, including dairy cattle on Friday, swine on Saturday, and beef cattle on Sunday. Food vendors will be on the grounds during the fair.

The fair book should be out in mid-May, and will be on line at about that time too. Volunteers are also needed. Check for information on Facebook on the Piatt County Fair page.
