Davis sworn in as member of Congress

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) was sworn in as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 113th Congress during a ceremony on the floor of the House on Thursday, January 3, 2013. The oath was administered by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).

“It is an honor to represent the people of Illinois’ 13th Congressional District in Washington,” said Davis. “The oath I took today is something that I take very seriously, and I will be unwavering in my fight to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

The text of the Oath of Office is as follows:

“I, (name of Member), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Davis was joined on the floor by his children, Toryn, Clark and Griffin, while his wife, Shannon, and other family members and friends watched from the House Gallery.
