John Lyons was re-elected chairman of the Piatt County Board at an organizational meeting held Monday (Dec. 3). The District 3 board member was first elected chair in 2010.
Thomas Dobson, also of District 3, was re-elected as vice-chairman.
All six positions on the board were also sworn in at the meeting, since redistricting necessitated all seats be up for election this past November. Kathleen Piatt of District 1 is the only newcomer, and joins incumbents Lyons, Dobson, Randy Jo Keith (District 1), Michael Wileaver (Districtc 2) and Richard Wilkin (District 2) on the county board.
Piatt asked if it was “usual” that the chair and vice-chair come from the same district. Lyons said the vice-chair’s main duty is to run meetings when the chairman is not available, and that there was “nothing on the books” addressing the issue.
Terms of office were also drawn. Piatt, Wilkin and Dobson will serve two-year terms, while Keith, Wileaver and Lyons drew four-year ones.
