Sunday liquor sales changed

Aldermen approved additional hours for Sunday alcohol sales in Monticello. A request had been made by Monarch Brewing Co. to move the start of Sunday sales back two hours to 10 a.m.

At Monday’s meeting, Main Street Pub owner Terri Norman said she had “never brought this forward out of respect to those who prefer to go to church,” but that now that it was being considered, asked if sales could start even earlier to accommodate the 8 a.m. opening of her downtown business.

The council decided to stick with the 10 a.m. time, which applies to all liquor license holders, but Stoner said they could consider Norman’s request in the future.

During the public participation portion of the meeting, local American Legion member Jim Cavanaugh asked for help from the city as the organization searches for a legion home, preferably in the downtown area.
