Area competitors excel at national rodeo event

Fifteen-year-old Laney Felter, daughter of Mark and Tracey Kaufman of Cisco, and 14-year-old Cal Spence, son of Kendra Spence and Bob Spence of Monticello, competed at the International Miniature Rodeo Association World Finals the week of January 15-21 at Jim Norick Arena in Oklahoma City.

Spence had a first-place finish in the second go-round and a reserve champion finish in the senior bull riding event. Felter finished third overall in senior barrel racing.

Spence also had the privilege to ride his final ride with professional bull riders from around the globe as part of the International Finals Rodeo held January 19-21.

Both Felter and Spence are members of the Piatt County Trail Blazers, Midwest Youth Rodeo Association and National Little Britches Rodeo Association, and both have qualified for the National Finals in Guthrie, Okla. in July.

Felter is a member of the Illinois High School Rodeo Association and Spence is a member of the Illinois Junior High School Rodeo Association.
