Bement rolls to consolation title

The Bement boys basketball team showed how to bounce back from an early tournament loss.
The Bulldogs won their final three games in the Little Okaw Valley conference tournament to claim the consolation title, beating Lovington, 49-43, on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Trailing by one entering the fourth quarter, Bement took over in the final eight minutes with an 11-4 run.
Sophomore Connor Gross connected on six three pointers to score a game-high 20 points for the Bulldogs.
Junior Tyce Rittenhouse and sophomore Steve Isbell each scored nine points.
The win bumped Bement’s overall record up to 7-14 overall.
The Bulldogs advanced to the consolation title game by beating Martinsville, 46-44, on Tuesday, and Arthur, 56-41, on Friday.
Against Martinsville, Gross poured in 16 points and sophomore Ethan Morton added 12.
Bement outscored the Blue Streaks 26-21 in the second half to edge out the win and snap a five game losing streak.
On Friday, the Bulldogs blew through Arthur, taking a 28-7 lead at the half and cruising the rest of the game.
Gross scored a game-high 23 points and Morton added 11.
Rittenhouse and Isbell each chipped in eight points.
The Bulldogs return to the LOVC regular season with a 1-4 record.
