Sages duels to perfection in Okaws

The Monticello wrestling team ran the table at the Okaw Duels for the second consecutive year last weekend.
The Sages went 5-0, wrapping up the weekend with a 51-23 win over Argenta-Oreana in their final match on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Monticello won the five duels by an average of 36 points, with their closet match coming against Shelbyville, 37-26.
The Sages others victories were against Unity (64-15), Warrensburg-Latham (58-20) and Clinton (63-3).
Seniors Ramsey Hoss, Luke Dunn, Drew Benson, sophomores Austin Hyde and Brendan Menacher and freshman Jamie Smith all went undefeated in their weight classes.
Hyde was one of the Sages top scorers providing 30 team points at 113 pounds with pins against Jordan Butler (Clinton), Adam Boyer (W-L), Jared Hicks (Shelbyville) and Zach Whitsel (A-O). His wins over Boyer and Hicks each took less than a minute. He also won a forfeit against Unity.
At 106 pounds, Smith also picked up 30 points pinning Daris Daniels (Unity) in 27 seconds and T.J. Jackson (A-O) in 4:45. He also had three wins via forfeit.
Benson's five wins came in two weight classes. Benson was 4-0 at 220 pounds with a pin against Scott Oakman (Clinton) in 37 seconds and forfeits against Warrensburg, Shelbyville and (Unity). Benson also pinned Tyler Ortmann (A-O) in 2:29.
Hoss provided pins in the Sages 145 pounds matches against Christian Champley (Clinton) and Spencer Hollis (A-O). He also won by pin in the Unity duel, took a 5-2 decision against Lucas Ducket (Shelbyville) match and a forfeit against Warrensburg.
Dunn secured pins in his 152 pound matches against Deonta Johnson (Clinton) and Dallas Longstreet (A-O). He also won a major decision against Dustin Adams (W-L) and Bryce Henze (Shelbyville), and  a forfeit against Unity.
Menacher provided a pin against Bryce Knittle (A-O) in 5:55. He also had a 16-7 major decision against Andy Fourman (Unity) and a 12-5 decision against Mitchell Barna (Shelbyville). His other matches were won by forfeit. All were at 170 pounds.
Senior Clay Wright went 4-1 at 160 pounds, winning by pin in his matches against Kye Reczek (Clinton) and Austin Wenskunas (A-O). He also scored a 4-3 decision against Josh Hicks (Shelbyville) and a forfeit against Unity. The four wins moved him to within one of 100 for his career.
Sophomore Josh Burton picked up three wins in the 138 pound class. He pinned Elijah Miller (Unity) in 3:03 and took a 10-8 decision with Seth Bowman (Argenta-Orean). He also won a forfeit with Warrensburg.
Freshman Andrew Koss scored a 50 second pin against Austin Kemp (Clinton). He also pinned Jordan Bird (W-L) and Chuck O'Neill (A-O).
Junior Seth Chitwood won two matches, winning a pin against Unity and a forfeit in the Warrenburg duel.
Junior Tanner Vandalsen locked in pins against Niko Estrada (Unity) and Eric Gibbs (W-L) at 195 pounds. He also won a 5-3 decision against Jamie Williams (Clinton).
Freshman Mike Redwinski (182 pounds) scored pins against Austin Hill (Clinton) in 1:28 and Michael Nees (Shelbyville) in 1:13.
Senior Avery Stoddard was 2-2 at 285 pounds. Both wins were forfeits.
The wins pushed Monticello's duel record up to 17-5 for the season.
