Monticello Theatre Association is pleased to announce summer workshops will be held for the sixth season. There are two sessions of the drama workshops for children. Workshop 1 for children entering grades 4, 5 and 6 in the fall will be held June 6-17. Workshop 2 for children entering grades 1, 2 and 3 in the fall will be held June 20-24.
The sessions will be held at MTA’s Phoenix Theatre at 1406 N. Market St. Monticello.
Workshop 1 will meet from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday mornings each week, and conclude with a production at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17.
Workshop 2 will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday mornings and conclude with a production for family and friends at 7 p.m. on June 24. Both closing programs will be open to the public.
Workshop 1 will be directed by Sherrie Hildreth, music educator from Urbana. Workshop 2 will be under the direction of Sally Bower, first grade teacher at Lincoln School, Monticello.
Questions about the workshops may be directed to Gil Yohnka, MTA board member at 217-202-5238. Each workshop will include a variety of stage work in order to prepare a show for their closing. Students will work on stage presence, characterization and body movement as well as assisting with costumes, make-up, props and set design for their show.
Participants will have a great time "putting on a play". It can be a fun time to "be someone else" – on a stage, with lights!
Interested parties may check the website at www.monticellotheatre.org to register or get additional information. Previous participants may send a check to MTA, P.O. Box 81, Monticello in order to register. Registration will be limited to 18 participants for each workshop.
