“Christmas on the Hill with Santa” is the theme of the 19th annual Christmas on the Hill in Cerro Gordo, which will be held Dec. 7 in the village. Activities will include:
–Parade: The parade will kick off from the 300 block of S. Madison Street, head north, turn right on South Street, right on Monroe Street and south on Wait Street, where Santa will enter the American Legion Hall. The parade will then proceed south to Durfee Street, where it will end.
–Santa: After being dropped off at the American Legion, Santa will remain until 2 p.m. (except for a lunch break at 11:45 a.m.) to greet children.
–Parade Marshals: They are the State Bank of Cerro Gordo, which has served the community for 125 years.
–Lunch with Santa: Santa invites all children fifth grade and younger to join in a free lunch at noon. Reservations are required by calling Syd Morganthaler at 901-827-1062 by Dec. 2.
Candy Store: The women of three local churches are busy making a variety of candies that will be available for purchase from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cerro Gordo Elementary multipurpose room. The candy shop has been a part of the celebration all 19 years.
–Cookie Walk: Organized by the Cerro Gordo Woman’s Club, cookie walks will start at 9 a.m. in the elementary multipurpose room.
–Bucket Raffle: Also back for the 19th year, raffle tickets will be available starting at 9 a.m., also in the multipurpose room. Drawings will begin at 1:30 p.m. To donate items for the raffle, contact Nancy Born Martin at 217-763-8521.
–50/50 drawing: Organized by the American Legion Auxiliary.
–Gifts for Children: The Cerro Gordo American Legion Auxiliary will hold a drawing for four boys’ gifts and four girls’ gifts. The drawing will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room.
–Other activities at the elementary school: Will include a Vendors Alley, balloon sculpture, face painting, games with prizes and merchandise booths. Soup and sandwiches will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a magic show by Sally the Clown is scheduled for 1 p.m.
–Craft Bazaar: Will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cerro Gordo Civic Center.
