It’s not too early to start planning for the 2020 Piatt County Fair. The Fair board has set the dates for June 18-21, Father’s Day weekend. Organizers are planning to have the usual ITPA Tractor Pull, Piatt County Outlaw Hookers Antique Tractor Pull, beer barn music, livestock shows, general exhibits, and go-kart race.
But help is needed.
A press from the fair board stated, “If helping with the County Fair is something that interests you, and you have time to commit, we need you. We are always in need of people to help keep the grounds in good condition and to do repair and upgrade work where needed. We also are lacking a superintendent for our general exhibits hobby and crafts Junior division.”
“Our general exhibits Adult division superintendent could use a co-superintendent. We would like to build that division and see more adults showing at the Fair. General exhibits will come in on Thursday evening, June 18, 2020, and will be on display until noon on Sunday, June 21,” the release continued.
In addition, the fairgrounds go-kart promoter is retiring. The Fair is looking for someone to take over leasing the Cerro Gordo Speedway track to conduct go-kart races next season. Contact Don Ritchie (217-855-4900) if there is interest.
Ideas and help for Saturday activities will be much appreciated. Fair officials want to see more happening on Saturday.
Much effort goes into putting on the County Fair, and more falls on our volunteers since there is no paid staff.
If you would like to help out, call Don Ritchie, Tina Bolsen (217-620-8185), or Carol Kussart (217-855-3258), or come to the next fair board meeting at the fair office at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.
