Seth E. Floyd, the incumbent Piatt County Circuit Clerk, has officially announced his intent to run for re-election. Floyd took office in December after being elected in November 2018. His current term runs through Nov. 30, 2020.

He stated that he is seeking re-election so he can continue to advance operations and provide stability in the office that is the official record keeper and financial arm for the Circuit Court.

With the current climate of affairs in the State of Illinois, it is imperative to have effective and responsible leadership in local government. Having someone at the helm who promotes accessibility of services while also being fiscally responsible is paramount as we move forward,” Floyd said.

In his short time in office, Floyd has already overseen the transition in Piatt County involving legislation which set new court fee structures and overhauled the traffic and criminal court assessments.

He also was instrumental in keeping passport processing services in the Circuit Clerk’s Office after an initial State Department decision had been made to discontinue that program in Piatt County.

Additionally, he anticipates the implementation of criminal e-filing within the coming weeks—which is currently only available in about one-fifth of Illinois Counties.

When I started this venture a couple years ago, I never viewed it as a two-year commitment. We have made some significant strides to date by increasing efficiency and transparency, and I am looking forward to continuing those advancements.”

Floyd, 35, is married to his wife, Meaghann, and has two daughters, Addison (9), and Avery (2).

Civically, he is a member of the Monticello American Legion, Piatt County Veterans Assistance Commission, Piatt County Farm Bureau, and Monticello Rotary Club in addition to being the Commander of Piatt County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5346.
