An open house for Old Washington school, which has educated youth in Monticello since 1894, will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 20. The public is invited to get a last look at the building that will be demolished this summer to pave the way for new elementary school classroom construction.
One portion that will not be open on the tour is the attic, which can only be reached by ladder but at one time hosted physical education activities. Superintendent Vic Zimmerman has been showing staff and interested parties the attic, a wide open area that currently stores some old trophies, screens for windows and even a few signatures from past attendees.
See accompanying video for more on the attic space.
