On June 15, 2019, Francis Maloney passed away at the Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello.

When Francis was born on May 1,1934, in Chicago, IL, he lived just outside the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. That may have been a factor in his becoming such an avid, lifelong baseball fan-one who was always quick to point out the superiority of his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, especially in regard to their rivals the Chicago Cubs.

Francis proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. He worked for over 25 years for the First State Bancorp, serving as a Vice President at the First State Bank of Monticello, and as President of the First State Banks of Hammond and Atwood.

He was an active member of the Monticello Lions club for many years.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 60 years (Lillian) Faye Maloney. He is survived by his children, Sheila Maloney (Mark Gilbert), of rural White Heath, IL, and his son, Kelly Maloney, of Tucson, AZ.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Monticello Christian Church with Rev. Steve Ingram officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery with Military graveside rites. Memorials may be made to Faith-in-Action.
