Members of the 2018 Monticello football team received state championship rings Friday, April 5.
The Sages went a perfect 14-0 and defeated Byron in the IHSA Class 3A state championship game in Champaign in November.
According to an email from Monticello athletics director Dan Sheehan:
"The Monticello Class 3A state championship ring is made using Herff Jones exclusive jeweler's metal known as Ultrium. It uses 38 cubic zirconias ranging in size from 1.5 pts. to 5 pts. and is paired with the custom Monticello "M" built using purple and yellow Gold Futron. The left and right shanks were customized by the administration and players to feature players' name, jersey number, position, record, division or class and year date. Each ring is personalized with players' initials or full name engraved on the inside band of the ring. The ring model is officially listed as the R6425SX and measures exactly 21mm by 18mm across the top and base of the ring."
Rings were purchased by players and "championship corporate sponsors," according to Sheehan. No district funds were used.
